Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was an United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her name is well-known due to her direct questions to Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
